So this is my final video, it didn't turn out as great as I hoped, and I know the voices in the beginning sound very weird, just pretend that that are people who finished class and walk out.
Dancing chairs
I made a video about some chairs dancing. Why… I don’t know. I just though about the idea for some reason and couldn’t change my mind. But when I first thought of it, it thought about bigger and better. I when I got started found out, that my master idea is just impossible to do with the time and resources I got. So I ended up with an OK version of my master idea, but because of my time limit, a lot shorter. I ended up with 858 pictures. Mainly because I have the new version of I Can Animate and I don’t know how to slow down the speed, so I doubled all the photos, and the beginning I took about a lot more because they stand still for quite a long time doing nothing. So I made about 400 photos. When I imported it to iMovie I did increase the length of the beginning a bit more, so it would fit the dialog. I put more than 10 hours into this project, not including all the planning and write up I did.
I choose 9 chairs because it’s not too small, and I can fit 3 chairs a table. I first though I was going to do 8 because I can pair them up with none left, but I took another on the last moment. I better didn’t do that, because we only have 8 of the same chairs at home. In the scene when they keep turning around (scene 6 in my timeline) I had to take the chairs coming true the window and put it at the end, so the end of the line slows down a bit at the end, while the front goes faster.
The recording I did at the beginning of people walking away was Christine and I. The idea was to record actual people walking out of an actual classroom, but because I couldn’t find the time to do that, and even if I would it would be very hard so I just recorded it with Christine. It didn’t turn out as realistic as I hoped, we just literally made weird noises while we walked out of my dinning room (where I was doing my homework) and close the door after that. But because it was the last day, I didn’t really had a choose. I choose the song ‘Hey Stephen’ because when I went true my music collection I wanted to have a song that doesn’t immediately start with the lyrics so I can finish my dialog when the music already started, and I didn’t want it to be very loud, like a Rock song. So I choose a Country song.
At the beginning, the chairs push the table out of the screen, the right back chairs I accidentally made them go the wrong side of the table, so they first go out of the screen realize they have to go the other way and have to go the other side. Somewhere at the beginning, the chairs start spinning in pairs, that didn’t turn out as good as I hoped. The back chairs were fine. But the front kept going half out of the screen, so I wanted to turn them toward the centre. But I kept on changing direction which I didn’t notices till I played it back that evening. I did have a weird feeling so I just kept going on the next thing. The merry-go-round or something like that. I made it repeat it a few times, it didn’t work out as great. But it did at least.
At one point the chairs go from the ICT room into my living room. My first idea was that I put two videos on the same screen at the same time. But I found I had no idea how, neither did anyone else. So I just kept it with 4 chairs going in 5 chairs coming out. When they come in my living room and go across it, I thought it looked quite boring when just these chairs walk across. So I add the spinning thing on the table, and made the chairs spin too. I was not able to control the lamp, as I had to open the door for the chairs to go out, while it was very windy outside. I made the chairs go true a door, but because I forgot to open the curtain, they just go true the curtain.
When they come out in the hall (I know it’s not a hall, but I just call it that for now). That was equally one of the most challenging scenes of the whole video. For two reasons really. One of them is that when the chairs went down a small step, just in front of the door. The bits were you lean on with your back on the chair kept on fallen forwards the ground (the wrong way). It took me so long for every chair to make it balanced, and make it stay balanced. The second reason is the door. The door closes automatically. Except if you put a doorstopper underneath, so it can’t move. Too bad there wasn’t any around. I had to look for something that would fit perfectly under the door and was not breakable or bendable. I ended up with a roll of tape, and my own wallet. But when I later on in that scene wanted to close that door, the tapes didn’t work anymore then. Because were the tape roll was leaning on was the normal stone ground, but then there was a carpet, and it was a bit lower that the stone ground. So it didn’t work, I had to go around ad find something else. I ended up with a paintbrush.
Because of the lack of time, I was not able to add in any of the techniques used in the five you tube videos. When you see the first pictures of the first video, you see clay popping up in a spiral. That was my idea of when they would come in the ICT room later (I didn’t got to that scene)
The second picture with the second video I was going to used that technique when they walked out of the Art room/my dining room. But I didn’t make it obvious enough, so you can’t really see it.
The third video when the monster eats all the candy at the beginning. I was going to do that at the beginning to keep the idea of cleaning the ICT room, but it was going to become too long, so I cut it out when I wrote the timeline.
The fourth, I also cut out when I wrote the timeline because it didn’t really made sense to me on. I when the chairs would drop I would do that slow motion, but I didn’t really saw the point, and when you do slow motion it makes it more obvious that I only took so many pictures, and it would be really hard to make the chairs drop.
The idea of the fifth one is that first the chairs would be pushed back (magically) my Maddy, and then they would go on and off or better said token away and put back a few times just like the Tetris. But again, I didn’t got to that bit either.
