In the last three week, we've been learning about computers and how they work (hard and soft ware). What we've done is our ICT teacher took four (old) computer apart, and in four group we all got one. We put it back together and got it to work. Then we installed some software to make it work. After only three lessons we put everything back in it's place and got our computer to ping each other, and we got ourselves on our very own internet connection. So now for homework we have to talk a bit about what we've learned in those three lessons.
You have six main components in any computer
- Motherboard
- CPU
- RAM
- Hard Drive
- Power Supply
- Case
If you miss out any of the first 5 components any computer won't work.
The Motherboard is called the motherboard because (almost) everything is connected to each other through the motherboard, it is hard to go into it in detail, but most of the wires are plugged into the Motherboard and processes everything and pops it out in the right place again.
The CPU (central processing unit) is pretty much the thing in the case that processes all the software.
The RAM (random access memory) this is were you store everything temporarily, how more RAM you have how faster you computer can go.
The Hard drive is were when you press the 'save' button everything goes. If you don't do this your file will stay in the RAM and when you turn your computer off you RAM will forget everything.
The power supply is the wire that supplies power to your computer (obviously)
The case doesn't sound very important... but it is. It keeps everything protected and in place (and it looks prettier).
We've also learned about how the internet works and how you can send things to each other. Now next lesson we have to make a performance/video with us (students) representing the different factors needed to send a picture to someone. FUN. I got to play a small part of the picture and have to go though the whole big internet to the other computer exciting.
Emma, can you complete you list? There should be six in total. Which are missing? In future, please try and use as much of the technical language from class as possible (such as the name of the software: Ubuntu Linux).
